The traditional Witches Cup race around the Salem, MA green was back for 2016. For elite women, Leslie Timm smashed her way through the evening criterium, dominating the numerous prime sprints before comfortably taking the race win for her Sunapee/Continental Paving/Buchikas team. With Emma Collins and Danielle Ruane also in the top 20, the team scored enough points to hold off second place Green Line Velo / Zipcar in the overall team standing for the summer-long series.
The series title for elite men was done and dusted before Salem, with the men of Green Line Velo holding an insurmountable lead. To ice the cake, Green Line’s Sam Rosenholz scored the win at Salem, with teammate John Harris scoring third place just behind Ansel Dickey from Astellas.
Each team claimed $500 in winnings for overall title in the the six criterium race series, which began with the Longsjo Classic race June 24-26.
Sam Rosenholtz takes the win for Green Line Velo, looking to give his team a virtual lock on the top spot at 601 pts with only the Salem Witch’s Cup remaining. Second place Rally Pro Cycling with 516 pts isn’t racing the post-Longsjo events, while third place BikeReg Elite Cycling is at a distant 264 pts.
Ellen Noble does it again for Aspire Racing, scoring her 3rd win and 4th podium in New England Criterium Summer. Noble is a one-woman team, and by herself is third in the standings with 432 pts.
